This bottle was fortunately not corked. 70% Grenache, but the influence of the 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre is clearly noticeable. Fairly darkly colored with on the nose and the palate cherries, liquorice and chocolate. Mouth-filling with strong tannines and a good acidity for this hot vintage. Serve it cool to keep the 15% alcohol in check. At 25€ in 2017 a remarkebly good QPR.

Cork with a slight TCA-taint which is confirmed by a muted nose with TCA. The wine is still drinkable but the pleasure is ruined by the taint. A real pity as this was a very good wine in a previous experience. Damn corks!

The IWR review from 18 months ago is right on. Very nice, medium to full bodied (for a CDP) and concentrated, but smooth with no edges and seamless. 30 minutes of air, no decant or VinAire.

The 2015 ‘Le Miocène’ Châteauneuf-du-Pape is another fantastic release from Domaine Grand Veneur in this vintage. The blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre instantly begins to impress with gorgeous aromas of fresh red and dark fruits which fill the glass as nuances of black olive, herbs, licorice, spices and dried loam add lovely complexity. On the palate this shows lovely elegance through a medium-plus body which is beautifully balanced and focused. The finish is long leaving behind flavors of red fruits and spices lingering. (Best 2020-2032)
