Just past prime. Although the color is clear ruby, the fruit is showing some signs of age. Decanted and drank over 3 hours. Bright fruits, dirty earthiness, and slight tartness at the end.

Brought up from the cellar to warm standing up for several hours. Initial scent on cork is of strong fruit with spcy overtones.
After breathing in the bottle for a couple of hours, the initial pour reveals a medium-dark ruby red in the glass with a fairly uniform sheen and just a few legs. The nose has blackberry and cherry fruit in abundance with a hint of pine needles and just the barest hint of must.
On the palate, the black cherry fruit comes through in abundance with the blackberry dancing along in harmony. The finish reprises the fruit with just a hint of the must bringing a subtle and delightful contrast to the fruit. The blackberry is very strong on the back of the tongue and just lingers on and on.
I’m thinking that this wine is just starting to open up and would’ve benefited from several more years sideways, so I’m going to hold off on the ’06 Epitome as long as I can but until at least 2013 for the first bottle. This wine rocks! I think the other tasters - and there are only 3 other notes on CT - drank this wine way too early before it had a chance to develop.
On the second day, the wine is snorking loudly and Dino is very pleased. Seriously though, on the second day the wine has opened up a bit more and the fruits are spread more broadly on the palate and the finish is still quite long. All in all a delicious wine with additional development to look forward to; sadly this was our one and only bottle.
Drink or hold, will continue to develop for at least a few more years.

A really nice blend. Deep red color with coffee, blackberry and vanilla extract notes and a smooth finish.
