For less than $15, you don't need to expect much from this Niagara Sauvignon Blanc, but it certainly delivers easygoing freshness and a pleasant, if hardly profound, experience overall. It's a fairly light-bodied expression of the varietal, with a very light colour, and the aromas and flavours are also fairly light (this isn't New Zealand), leaning towards the green -- lime, gooseberry, Granny Smith apple, asparagus -- with a very minerally backbone but a tad too much citrus pith bitterness on the (short) finish. Time really brings out juiciness and even some underlying richness (as well as peach-apricot notes), and so what seems insubstantial early on becomes quite impressive. No, it's not profound, but there's a lot to be said for less punchy Sauvignon Blanc.
