The Morellino di Scansano part of Tuscany is famous for making relatively affordable good value Sangiovese wines of modest quality. This 2005 vintage from the Morisfarms winery, however, is unusually dark and rich. Near black, with fragrant fruit flavors closest to black cherry. The sipped wine is surprisingly concentrated, smoothly fruity, and moderately silky, with drying black tea tannin and bright acidity, that could easily pass for being a Chianti that will get even better with additional years of aging.

This wine was decent, however the abundance of tartrate crystals kind of spooked my full tasting experience. I generally prefer Morellino di Scansano as my table wine and found this one to be palatable, but not as robust as other brands. The usual cherry and plum notes were faint and left me wanting to compare it to another Morellino, just to figure out what this wine was missing compared to others.

Plastic closure. Deep colour, nose of black cherries which carries on into the palate. Simple wine; tannins harsh even with food; hot, alcoholic feel; short finish.
