  • Have had two bottles with consistent notes. Would echo DQ - this is plush, ripe, balanced. Deep, dark fruits, full bodied. Not overly complex. Suspect it won’t get much better with more time

  • We really enjoyed this wine for what it was. Just hedonistic and fruity. Cannot compare to the Tench or the blend (forgot what it is called but sooo good) but this is open for business right now. So smooth and integrated. Plush tannins, ripe fruit. Not complex enough to warrant a higher score but the bottle did not last long on the table.
2 hour decant seemed just fine

  • The booze has certainly integrated a bit better here, but the flavors have become more plush and round. Good in some senses, but missing grip when compared to the gobs of blackberry fruit. A flavor hound wine, if not a bit simple in its current state. I’d hoped time would bring this around more. It’s a party crowd pleaser no doubt, but from a cerebral sense, it’s on more of a trajectory for richness and extraction, with complexity more of an afterthought. Just know what you’re getting into here. A lot of jam and jelly. I personally prefer the 2015 version.

  • Previous notes from last year apply. Big, ripe, and sexy, but with some serious scaffolding to hold it nicely together. Black and purple/red core fruit, with predominantly a black profile overall. Some clove, vanilla bean, dark chocolate, black raspberry truffle, and black currant notes to add interest. Good grip and acid. Some black cherry liqueur (alcohol) on the very tail end of the finish.

In-between that 94-95 point spectrum for me. Hold until 2020 to let that last little bit of booze integrate with the formidable fruit. A solid wine, if but a bit heavy on the QPR side of things.

  • Sourced from Tench & Sugarloaf...jackpot. Vanilla, cigar smoke, cassis on the nose, forever legs, and a great blend of truffle, coffee and jammy blackberries. Those who enjoy Bevan wines will love this. For those who prefer a lore delicate and elegant cab, steer clear. Not for the faint of heart.
