  • Had seen some negative notes about this wine and so was really pleasantly surprised to open one of my two bottles and find a wine that really had some nice things going for it, both in the mouth and on the nose. Plenty of complexity and really enjoyable. Will open one of my two Shell Creek, same vintage, next.

  • tremendous showing for this wine. it had shed any baby fat and reminded us of cote rotie with complex layered licorice driven nose and succulent but trimmed down fruit. in a great place now!

  • Earth driven Syrah. The nose is overpowered with heat. On the palate bark, menthol and earth...and alcohol. Still has a lot of life in it, and I imagine that it will improve with age. I have two more bottles in the cellar that I will give more time.
I love this wine maker, the 2006 Clos Mimi Syrah Petite Rousse was even better in my opinion. From what I can gather he is out of business, I hope he shows up again.

  • This is very dark with an interesting burnt caramel-dark edge. I could sit with this nose all night; Fragrant cool black fruits with a wisp of soy-black pepper-all spice and gingerbread. Very very nice. Mouthfeel is dense and dark leaning with hints of menthol, white pepper, ripe blueberry, steamy meats and more. I think this fully resolved and poised to please at 9 years old. I have not had this since it was a new release and must say I like what I taste. Initially I got a bit of heat on the back end, but 20 minutes fleshed that out and we are golden. Balance is tight with a liltiness that grabs hold of your attention. Finish long and true. Not sure why Tim gets little love on his wine-making feats; He wants to create the Guigal of the US, and he may be onto something here. Count me as a fan. Who could resist such an interesting wine?

  • Lots of dark spice. Open in the bottle for six hours...and it needed it.
Dark roast coffee, blackberries, scorched earth, black pepper and heavily smoked meat.
Lots of dark berries on the palate, but much more smoke, earth and meat driven.
Not bad. Everyone else liked this bottling more than I did. I just felt the finish was a little out of balance.
This was expected with a whopping 15.8% alcohol content -- though some producers pull these levels off fairly well.
