  • Very, very light Burgundy. While I really like the simplicity of this wine (delicious cherry juice), it's totally lacking in any complexity. Other than that, there aren't any flaws, and there's food-friendly acidity and medium- tannins. I should say 84-85, but it's just so unassuming and pleasant to drink, so I'm going with 87. Maybe a couple more years and a couple more decanter hours will change my opinion.

Note: At the end of the night (5 hours in the decanter), there was also vanilla and a little more mouth feel. So, maybe a few more years in the cellar might create a more pronounced showing.

  • Medium purplish ruby to the rim. Complex nose-smoke, herbs, and whole berries. Medium weight but lots of glycerine. Black cherry, soil, spice, and moderate but not severe or dry tannins. Good persistence. This was really good and the most classic of the reds poured today. It should really benefit from 3 to 4 years in bottle. One of the better Mercureys I've tried and is already fairly complex and offering a lot. More forward than the de Villaine example tasted yesterday.
