  • a bit unbalanced. jammy with nice acidity that could be higher, and alcohol that would be better if a percent lower

  • There's plenty to be glad about in this wine. It was sent, at my request, for my sampling among a case of 2000 Renaissance 'Vin de Terroir' Cab (yet to taste). I'm a bit wary of the late aught wines from Renaissance that turned more modern in style compared to their stout, worthy forbearers. In the case of this '05, I sense it was in a transition period where one gets more of the rich CA cab fruit, yet still this wine is endowed with the quintessential Renaissance terroir -- the molten stone, mineral, structural componentry and surly spices. I believe folks more enamored with your big Napa cabs will find this a compelling competitor. There was a lot going on in the bottle over two nights (and the few sips in my glass during lunch today). So, while not the most revelatory of Renaissance Cabs I've tasted, this did have a lot very nice things to share. Definitely worth a try if you can obtain a bottle or three.

  • Another amazing Renaissance wine! Ruby orange color, light shone thru.mature semi complex nose. Brilliant palate full of energy, flavor, life! It penetrates every corner of the mouth. Kaleidoscopic Cabernet at its best! Medium plus tannin and acidity but the fruit really shines along with that Frenchy je ne sais quoi. Very long finish. Drink now or soon as a hint of volatiles is lurking in th background. Make no mistake tho, the life and energy are fantastic! Even better with food!
