  • Ripe citrus and prominent floral aromatics, very expressive and attractive. The palate is light but intense, very true to Kabinett style. There's a touch of bitter citrus pith on the finish, along with lip smacking acidity. Drinking well right now.

  • From coravin. Nose of citrus, vanilla, hint of petrol. Very light color. Light body. Refreshing. Initial taste is almost carbonated. Smooths out very nicely on the palate. More melons than citrus. Pronounced minerality. Elegant, fairly long finish. Acid is present but integrates nicely. Very very nice wine. Not sure what I paid for it but couldn’t have been much. Great value.

  • Last Dee Vine Pop-Up of the Year with 1989 and 1959 TBA Treats (1601 Kitchen, San Francisco): Light green. Off dry, bitter citrus. Decent acidity, lots of finishing soil.

  • Immediately identifiable Nahe aromatics of volcanic stone and tropical fruits - pineapple, as the Count mentions below - and some herbs. The palate is rather dense for a Kabinett, thought the racy acidity appearing on the finish balances the extract and moderate sweetness well The flavors on the palate tend more towards the citrus spectrum. This is quite nice, very much of its place, and should drink well for a while now, and again whenever the '16s open back up, maybe '23 or '24. But if you like primary Nahe Riesling, open now with pleasure.

  • 9,5% alcohol. Tasted blind among 49 other 2016 Riesling Kabinetts in Kabinett Cup 2016.

Pale neutral green color. Very crisp and green-toned nose that sets the wine apart from most of the other Rieslings in the tasting - whereas most of the other wines showed very classical German / Austrian / Alsatian Riesling character, this reminds me more of Italian / Slovakian / Hungarian Rieslings. I really can't describe the difference precisely, but it is noticeable enough to make me think like this. There are fresh, quite intense and somewhat pungent aromas of ripe apples, herbal greenness, a little bit of lemon juice and perfumed hints of Alpine flowers and lychee. The wine is crisp, intense and quite light-bodied on the palate with focused, medium-dry flavors of tart green apples, some concentrated waxy character, a little bit of grassy greenness, a hint of key lime and a touch of damson. Overall the wine comes across as quite racy with its high acidity. The finish is quite long, crisp and rather mineral with bright flavors of lemony citrus fruits, some quinine minerality, a little bit of apple peel character and a hint of ripe stone fruit.

A wine that is quite distinctive with its rather green-toned character - yet the wine shows some obvious ripeness, so it definitely isn't underripe. Some guessed it was Melsheimer Kabinett, but nope. Overall I found the wine very sophisticated, tasty and enjoyable. Not among my top wines, but definitely in my top quarter of wines for the tasting. On average the wine was very well-received, as it managed to secure a total of 24 points from 12 judges, making it overall the 2nd best wine out of 50 wines. Solid value at 13,00€.
