Probably an 88-89 in my mind, but bumped up a point given we got it for $20 so it was a very good value. Has a little complexity to it, so not just a light easy drinking merlot. Can tell it comes from cool climate Carneros. Enjoyable but not overly memorable.

Lively aromas of black cherry, blackberry and plum with crushed mint with hints of cinnamon and toasted vanilla. Exuberant flavors on the palate with grenadine, black cherry, and dark plum with allspice, a savory note and a hint of graphite with some cracked pepper. Supple and lovely. This is a delicious wine, drinking wonderfully right now.

I’m not a Merlot fan at all, so take this review with a tiny grain of salt. I think I have 2 bottles of Merlot in my entire cellar (out of 230+!). I liked this, but not sure it’s really an accurate Merlot-type Varietal Example. This is pretty big and dry with a good deal of oak, but with solid black fruit.
I had this with an ok, but not great, savory split pea and ham soup and it was ok. The wine deserved better. But with the big oak, this should be paired with a grilled chicken or red meat!
I’m a big Napa Valley Cab Sauv lover, so this being a Merlot but so good, I can’t help but suspect it’s not a good Merlot varietal example. Worked for me though, so I don’t really care.
In a couple of months, we’ll have another wine club order and this may very well make the cut! A solid 90 Pointer and at a Price of $28, an Excellent QPR.

Very similar to the first bottle. Had this with an excellent (if I say so myself) grilled pork roast. I’d actually raise this a point.
