  • Unbelievably waxy in the nose, with an underripe tropical fruit profile, like the crunchy middle part of a pineapple. Very malo in style too, though this isn’t as pronounced on the nose on the second glass. It is on the palette however. Very austere on the palette. Buttery finish. This would be a severe test in a blind tasting. Maybe bottle variation or lack of air (it was better on the third glass) but this one was a disappointment, as I have had this producer before and been highly impressed.

  • Pale gold to the eye. Opens up with layers of really waxy citrus peel and yellow fruits, lightly pickled ginger, and a hint of white flowers. Fuller and richer in style - potentially suggesting some malolactic fermentation - yet there’s just about enough freshness keeping the wine in check. Rather atypical when it comes to what I want to see in white Burgundy and based on this showing one for those who favour their Chardonnay to be a little more bountiful.

  • A fully malo style.
Rich and intoxicating on the nose. Some lovely green apple and pear strike through.
Full bodied on the palate with medium acidity.
It’s a great wine now and will pick up weight over the years. I’d suggest drinking now for it’s brightness or holding if you like weighty Chardonnay.

  • Less
    Smoke and more
Punch than the clos saint jean. In parlance, the big dog. And that is wound up stuff for sure. More mineral and much tighter. Long powerful minerality.
