  • Tasted blind in VV.

Slightly developed dark red color with a somewhat maroon hue. Perhaps somewhat reductive and slightly closed nose with quite unpleasant, green-toned aromas of sappy leafy character, some gunpowder smoke and a hint of licorice along with a hint of dark-toned fruit. The wine feels ripe and sweet-toned on the palate, but also remarkably flavorless with vague notes of jammy dark berries, some overripe plums and a herbal touch of mint. The structure is very soft, thanks to the low acidity and lightly grippy tannins. The alcohol makes both the mouthfeel and the aftertaste quite hot. There are no flavors to speak of in the light and short finish.

I have consistently thought of Edelrood as a very poor wine, vintage after vintage. It's reassuring to see I think so even when tasting it fully blind. Complete waste of money at 11,19€.

  • Ripe dark fruit, tarry notes and smoke on the nose. Medium bodied, smooth with rather silky tannins, showing ripe dark fruit with a nice tarry touch and firm acidity. Balanced and tasty. Had a glass at Birgitta with their classic hamburger.
