I have been a fan of the 2014 for a while, as my go to well priced Barbaresco, but when I stumbled across a couple of 2013's in the same stock I had to check it out. I tossed up whether or not to hit the 90's. But it had matured nicely and for it's price point (which I don't usually consider when rating), probably deserved a higher rating.

Very different to the 2012 vintage - weightier, much less candy sweet, with woody/smoky notes and savoury flavours of cloves, hedgerow and slightly muted, tart red fruits. Tannins and acidity quite pronounced. Interesting for such an inexpensive supermarket nebbiolo, and perhaps this will open out in the future, but a tad austere and short-flavoured at the moment.

PnD let air for 1hr. Medium dark sanguine clear garnet. Cherry tar roses and amaro on the nose. Light(+) weight with mostly silky tannins with a touch of cherry skin grip. Crunchy cherry raspberry leather fennel amaro. Elegant deep complex and vibrant. Huge deal.
