Tobacco on the nose, fennel on the palate. This wine is vibrant, and there should be no rush to drink it. I've enjoyed every bottle of Snowden that I've encountered. The cork was just fine.

Rich full-bodied black cherry fruit with toasty chocolate and tobacco flavors, excellent structure, tannins softened, bottle age noted, surprisingly good wine

Opened about 2 hours before dinner, did not (yet) decant. An initial sip revealed plenty of tannins, and pleasant but one dimensional fruit. I let a small bit sit in the glass and it got "soapy" in the nose - enough so that I figured we didn't clean the Reidel's very well, and got a second one (and checked it out before I put any wine in it). Same thing happened on the second glass. But about 20 minutes later it blew off. It's a good solid wine and I'm expecting it to be fine with the steak - but I'm a little disappointed that there's not much nuance to it.
UPDATE: we're now 5 hours in, with every pour through a Vinturi, and it seems to have more stuffing on the attack, picking up some rich brambleberry jam. This can't need more time, can it??

All 3 corks failed. Had to filter out the corks. Drank well. Very fruity.

upon opening it was very bold...
it softened up very nicely with decanting and air.
became very balanced and smooth on the palate.
