Double decanted about two hours before drinking. Sweet dark cherries in grandmothers sewing room with hints of rosewater. Decidedly svelte for Barolo, more about grace than power. I wouldn't call it explosively open either, but nearing a plateau. It seems right on the precipice of blossoming. My guess is 2-3 more years will see the structure melt to it's best balance with the other elements. This isn't a long ager, but one to drink while wines from 2010 and 2013 sleep.

Drank in January 2024. Fairly smooth tannins which smoothed even further with roast beef. Probably a good idea to decant (medium sediment) and also worth opening an hour before as wine really opened in the glass after about 45 mins.

Single blind. Beams with pure red fruit and florals. In a classic style and hits all the right notes, but straightforward at this stage. Upside from here -- guessed this as Barbaresco given its "less" than the other wine in the pair, but with Roagna the Barbaresco is another class. Upside from here.

Barbaresco vs. Barolo (Chicago, IL): Served single blind. Very sweet fruit on the nose, and relatively red-fruited in the context of nebbiolo. On the palate, this also shows similarly sweet fruit relative to its partner in the flight. Relatively lighter in stature as well, indicating a relatively cool year. I guessed the Barolo here. A bit of a post-script -- while this was certainly a pleasant wine, and drinking very nicely, the lightness and relative openness of this wine convinces me that 2012 really is the worst Piedmont vintage for a good... 20ish years?

Aging nicely. Dusty Crimson color. Elegant in style. Bruised fruit, leather & dirt on the nose. Dark fruit & earthy elements with a lengthy & slightly dusty finish.
