This four-year-old wine is in a beautiful place right now. The Hollister Ranch Pinot is all 828 clone and is from one of the, if not the best, blocks of Pinot in CA's Edna Valley. The top of the vineyard is chunky limestone while the bottom is sandy.
Opened in July 2020, this still has a good amount of bright, red fruit, but its earthy notes are coming through, too. This is not a typical CA Pinot; rather, it has lighter Burgundian characteristics to it that give it great depth. 2016 vintage is definitely one to enjoy - it was the height of the CA drought, which produced stressed vines and great wines!
