14.8% abv. Dark plum, clear, in glass. A little lively on palate but overall a solid wine - long, fresh and juicy finish. Whatever tannins were present a few years ago have softened nicely - still has years ahead but doesn’t need decant for hours. Dark black and red berries, chocolate ganache with morello cherries on top - has a mountain fruit profile for sure (per label notes), but richer and more hedonistic imo. Can’t recall what I paid, but didn’t care after opening. Ready to drink now, and for several more years.

Did a virtual tasting of a few TOR wines with Tor himself and a few close wine friends.
The fruit from this wine is coming from the Tierra Roja vineyard, bordering Dalla Valle. In my experience, 2015s are very concentrated and because of that, can often be coiled up. This may be the winner for most coiled. Unyielding even after double decanting for around two hours. Aromatically, you get a sense of the profile with a mix of red, blue and black fruits, cinnamon, scorched earth, and peppercorns but it shuts down hard on the palate. Flavors are a bit muted and it’s obviously tannic, with crunchy black cherries , clay, herbs, dust and high percentage dark cocoa. If opening now, I’d decant for 8+ hrs, but better yet, hold for 5+ yrs.

Tasted at Wheeler Farms. Beautiful property. Great tasting and host, Tyler. Tasted notes are the day after from memory- details will be light but impressions accurate):
Tor’s 2016s should be spectacular. Excited to try the full lineup once delivered.
2015 Napa Valley Cab. Excellent QPR. 2015 My favorite of the 2nd Tier Napa Valley Cabernets. This one does not require time where the others have either lacked the immediate enjoyment factor or required time to improve to their level of enjoyment.
2016 Napa Valley Cab. Similar to 2014. Needs time to come into its own. Not immediately enjoyable but does have potential.
2015 Tierra Rioja. Wasn’t for me as Tor’s lineup has some really amazing wines but this one didn’t bowl me over (2016 is another story altogether!).
2016 Tierra Rioja. Really enjoyable. Great wine that will only improve with age. Great wine.
2015 Oakville. Same as 2015 Tierra Rioja thoughts above.
2016 Oakville. Same as 2015. Not my favorite in Tor’s lineup.
2015 Melanson. Usually I agree with WS vs the others that seem to be too ‘easy’ on their ratings but this one might be a point or two low. Great wine now and into the future. Really enjoyed.

Tasting in Napa during Campovelo cycling; 4/27/2018-4/30/2018 (Napa, CA): Underripe cherry, nice acidity, good balance, definitely a well made wine. A little more mellow on the fruit, a touch hot in balance. Needs some time. A touch lean and powdery on the finish but feel this will work out over time
