  • I think this is rather shut down. It still has all the tropical fruit that was on display three years ago, but now it’s as if there’s a dense fog between me and all that luscious fruit. Time to let this rest.

  • The Erdener Pralat is one of those “great” sites in an already amazing region. Climate change has taken its ripening advantage away, but it has not changed the distinctive character of the site. If anything, the essence of Pralat has been accentuated. So it is with this wine. The added level of richness over say a Treppchen shows in tropical tones such as mango and coconut. There is also a haunting note of honeysuckle that hovers over the wine. Underneath the tropical icing on the cake is golden apple, cinnamon spice, salt air and wet rocks. Perhaps the wine is still showing too much baby fat, but time is the cure for that. Right now it’s captivating, rich, sweet and just luscious.
