  • Very enjoyable wine with savory meat, cherry and smoke. The Grenache keeps the Syrah in check and I like the way the Roussanne rounds out the finish. Showed no signs of slowing down.

  • Beautiful showing and in a great spot right now. One hour decant and consumed over two hours, that seemed enough to open it up. Bouquet at opening was floral and black fruit. Medium to long finish, with a very clean mouthfeel. Syrah was very dominant. My first of four, will continue to try these over the next 3-4 years without worry.

  • I feel a bit foolish posting this given I rated this 89 just four months ago (last posting) it I had this again last night and it was absolutely terrific. I can’t blame it on bottle variation as both were purchased directly from the cellar and stored correctly the entire time. But last nights bottle had much of what I describe below but came together in a wonderfully harmonious way, with all the beautiful complexity of the three varietals on display. Syrah brings strong blue fruit structure, the Grenache adds subtle floral aromas, the Roussanne adds some of the savory elements that I also picked up last time that were again present yesterday. I dunno - maybe it was my mood but this is the best offering I’ve had from this winery in a long time and is an example of their craft at its best.

  • Was perhaps expecting a bit more from this. Color out of the bottle is nicely medium purple, right where you want it to be. On the nose, you get nicely perfumed elements that are not so much fruity as they are savory (as one of the previous reviews correctly notes): a bit of earth, smoke, maybe some bacon fat. The fruit is lurking in the background but not developed well enough to round out the wine nicely. Instead, it’s a bit one dimensional with a fairly short finish and tannins that are not well developed. I would have suggested perhaps aging this a bit but we decanted for an hour+ and it didn’t move the needle. I just get the impression the fruit selection was not as great as some of their other offerings. Pretty good, but I’ve had better from Sanguis.

  • Pop and pour. This is showing beautifully with silky dark fruit. Eminently quaffable.
