Annual Pilgrimage to Piedmont - 2019 Edition; 10/17/2019-10/20/2019 (Piedmont, Italy): Decanted frankly this needs a lot of decanting at this stage and better actually be left in the cellar for a good 5 years more. We had this side by side with the 2007 Le Vigne Sibi et Paucis and frankly they both felt very similar with youth hiding their subtle differences. Good fruit , soft oak on the background, bright and energetic but also lacked the complexity we would have liked to experience and will come with age. 92 for now and really too early in its drinking window. Better go for the 2006 at this stage and let this rest. 92 for now but with lots of potential.

Garnet without any lightening to the rim. Open and intense as well as complex right from the beginning. Cherry and berry fruits along with rose petals, minty smoke, iodine and slight tobacco scents and flavors. On the palate it is unbelievable concentrated, long (lingering for many minutes), as well as poised and balanced. Still showing a good tannic backbone, but ready to drink from my point of view. If you want this more velvety (it is smooth and velvety yet) and with less tannic backbone, forget it for at least 15 more years in a textbook cellar. 5/14/19+/10; 98+

Decanted for about 3 hours. This bottle was a slight disappointment compared to our very high expectations (Monica Larner: 98 points). The wine was quite inexpressive at the moment. I will wait another 3-5 years and hope for the best.
