  • A blend of Bical, Cerceal and Malvasia Fina. 13% alcohol.

Thin, pale green color. Fresh, bright and slightly lean nose with aromas of Granny Smith apple, herbal greenness, some ripe citrus fruits, a little bit of honey and a hint of grassy character. The wine is quite light-bodied, taut and very refreshing with sleek, focused flavors of stony minerality, ripe apples, some honey, a little bit of chalky bitterness, a hint of honeydew melon and a touch of steely austerity. The wine is high in acidity with slight touch of saline tang. The finish is long, mouthcleansingly sharp and slightly leesy with bright flavors of green apples, aromatic herbs, some apple peel bitterness and a hint of saline minerality.

A wonderfully bright, focused and mineral little white that is more about focus and structure than richness and ripeness of fruit, which is more typical of many other Portuguese whites. Many people thought this wine was a bit underwhelming, but some (me included) loved its playful lightness, minerality bordering on positive austerity and understated complexity. I can see even some cellaring potential here. Not perhaps for decades, but I can imagine this wine could benefit from 5 more years in a bottle. At 6,95€ this is just dirt cheap and shows incredible value. Very highly recommended.
