Blinded on this by my brother - same wine 1.5 years later. At the last blind tasting of this wine, it was so young and primary and really not showing much character at all (I guessed California Cabernet at that tasting). This bottle was very different - wide open, fruity, rich, lush, and full on alcohol. Acidity seemed pretty low, so I was thinking new world, probably Lodi or Amador County (near where my brother lives) but wasn't really placing the flavor profile, so I just guessed Zinfandel 2017 vintage, $25 price point. Was a little surprised on the reveal, especially since I'd had the wine before. This is definitely ripe and modern styled, with very little hint of its old world roots - I guess not very surprising in the Southern Rhone these days.

14% abv. Blinded to me by my brother. Did not have a good read on this. Seemed primary and young and reminded me of recent vintage lowish-end Cabernet. Was definitely thinking new world on this and had no sense of old world. There was kind of a currant note, even though the overall flavor profile was not quite right, so I settled on Cabernet, thinking this was a higher production bottling (like Rutherford Ranch) that you might find at Costco, from the 2018 vintage. Was pretty surprised to see this as a CdP, but I know these tend modern in recent vintages, I guess. In any case, I didn't find this very compelling at all - maybe needs more age to shed its baby fat. If scoring now, 87 - 88.
