  • Wine is unfortunately beyond "past its prime." It was such and over the top, full throttle, high alcohol wine in it's youth that now it's totally out of balance. You can taste sharp tart red fruits but it's so acidic that it hurts and burns in the throat. We tried to keep overnight to see if it softened but to no avail. I recently had an aged Hillside Reserve that was quite good so this vintage and it's style just didn't work.

  • Very well rounded, with smooth tannins and a long finish. A nice combination of flavors on the palate. This has benefited from aging, and could easily last a few more years.

  • Wow, this drinking amazingly well right now. Very pronounced aromas of cedar and eucalyptus with damp earth, leather, olives and dried cherries. Long finish and still has tremendous structure yet the tannins are fully integrated. No closed period on opening has with previous bottles in prior years.

Need to wait on finishing the rest to see if it evolves at all with a few days aeration.

  • Have to agree with jonahfactor, this is undrinkable. Open and decanted, maybe it's corked. A very bitter taste to it. Will call the winery tomorrow and see if anything can be done.

  • This was bottle #3 of 6. Popped and poured. Fair amount of butyl and acetone on the nose. Tannins have softened, but it still has nice structure, nowhere near thin. Served with prosciutto and sage crusted lamb chops with black olives and complemented this dish quite well. Fruit is tart cherry. Still seems rather closed. Will let it aerate a bit and try again, but probably has a few more years left.

Day 2: Aerated for several hours (about 4) before preserving and refrigerating overnight. Excessive tart fruit flavors are gone now. Nice earthy leather and Kalamata olives with dried cranberry. Structure is still firm. Some sediment, but less than expected. Nice syrah.
