  • Maybe I was tired by the time we got to this, but I was suprised and disappointed that an 01 from this vineyard could be so...uninteresting! Well, half the bottle sat in the fridge for 24 hours, and lo and behold, tonight it showed up in spades. Impeccably balanced white fruit and floral notes are framed by more perceived sweetness than last night. Yet it's bright and really tasty. Maybe just a tad syrupy but that's countered by bracing acidity.

  • This was so on-point and even MFW raving note doesn't capture how gorgeous this was. Tension of floral honey, orange marmalade and a rich tropical fruit with exotic, almost myrrh spicing. Most incredible pairing with passion fruit goat cheesecake. Just killed conversation amongst a bunch of wine geeks. A real wow wine.

  • Sunday BBQ (Chicago, IL): #18-02, 8.5% abv. Super leaky bottle, so judgment withheld, but there were definitely the correct elements of 2001 here, with the racy acidity and sweet ripe fruit, but on the palate, this comes to an abrupt end, like someone decided to dismember the finish from this wine.

  • I wasn't intending to drink this but saw some seepage from the cork so decided to open it. Light gold colour, very flowery nose, complex palate with a seville orange dominant, delicious. Perhaps more evolved than a pristine bottle, but a pleasure nonetheless.

  • Pours an off white faint yellow, almost colorless. This auslese came out to cool a Pad Thai that brought a lot of heat and it cut right through it. Petro-oil, lemon, steaming slate and honey on the nose, this round riesling offers up a rich mouthfeel of rock candy, peach and pineapple. Mead-like. For those that like spicy food, especially Thai, you must try with a nice kabinett or spatlese. This was not as acidic as I would have preferred for the pairing, but is an excellent wine nonetheless in a superb vintage. Day two showing more tropical notes - pineapple and pear, with more acidity - probably pairing influenced at opening night.
