  • What a different 6 months made, the issue with a lot of SLH wines is that they do tend to fall off early, and are short lived. Best consumed within 6-7 years of the vintage. Typically Morgan's a very good winemaker and their wines tend to last longer than many wines from this region. They are up there with Lucia and Pisoni in terms of longer lived SLH wines.

However this wine had fallen off considerably from the last bottle and it was starting too lose the freshness and the depth. It was stil a very enjoyable bottle but I think a year or 18 months ago it would have been a very, very different wine and infinitely more pleasurable, with vibrant fruit. If you have any drink up quickly.

  • This bottle is outstanding. Elegant, possessing finesse, and lovely balance. Gorgeous acidity, ripe red fruit, some spice, cherry, some spice like sandalwood and a hint of white pepper. Really great wine.

    From Morgan:
The Double L Vineyard’s location in the northern end of the Santa Lucia High- lands AVA affords Morgan the chance to grow the finest cool climate wine grapes. Planted on northeast facing terraces overlooking the Salinas River Valley, the north-south vineyard row orientation provides optimum sun exposure and access to the strong afternoon breezes. The winds moderate the afternoon temperature, thickening the grape skins and concentrating flavors.
