Tasted at the Whitewater Valley Wine Society, Hampshire, UK. A Christmas evening featuring wines in the style drunk by Charles Dickens in the 19th century. Presented by Chris White of Ellis, from whom Charles Dickens purchased his wines.
Dark crimson colour. Farmyardy nose, blackcurrants. Soft rich, mushrooms, chewy, savoury, smooth, complex. From an excellent vintage. Should keep 15-20 years, but I'd probably want to drink it earlier.
58% merlot, 42% cabernet sauvignon.

Decent wine, but not "OMG", as the other reviewer had rated it. Very much in the Bordeaux style, but lacks the deep, rich, cassis/black currant body that a "real" Bordeaux would have. However, for $25, it's worth it. It's a very nice daily drinking wine that would go well with a nice pizza, pasta, or pork chop. It's lighter than most Bordeaux, but it has a great nose and it's very pleasant to drink.
