  • 90%Syrah and 10%Mourvèdre from a top-vintage in the Ventoux and probably the best domain in the appellation. For certain tasters this Syrah-wine might pass for a northern Rhône wine, but the style is clearly southern, less strict and austère. Very deep black-red color with a purple edge, the bouquet is not yet fully developed and the taste is powerful with cherries, licorice, road-tar, a mass of ripe tannins, fresh acidity and a long aftertaste. This wine will benefit from another three years of maturation.

  • Tasted over 3 days.
Nice wine in the beginning of its best drinking window. Thanks to a high percentage of Syrah the flavour profile is different to Gigondas or C9dP But for me it doesn´t remind to a northern Rhone wine like some critics or merchants claim.
This bottle didn´t have the backbone and depth that I expected after all the praise from others and definitely not the elegance of a good Cornas, Crozes-Hermitage or so. Not enough acid and tannins IMHO. Thus not for the long haul. Rather a crowd pleaser. Although fairly priced, I´m not yet convinced.

  • 14.5% alcohol. S 90%, Mrvdr 10%. Very good cork with plenty of elasticity and no wine penetration whatsoever. Poured two glasses 30mn ahead to provide a modicum of air, but in retrospect I should have decanted. The colour is deep, and upon swirling one can see remnants of a youthful purple tinge.
Engaging nose with liquorice, violet and medicinal notes (in a nice way); some reductive notes too at times. The mouth is equally good with a superb balance between grip and fruit.
This can age another ten years without a bother.
It is not so frequent for a southern Syrah to be that successful, so hats off to the winemaker.
Clearly a step or two above the regular Fondrèche (for which I have a lot of time), and definitely worth the price.

  • Deep color, no sign of age. Nose of pepper, hint of rubber, and then blackberries and blueberries. Palate is dense. Nice ripe tannins. Same black fruits. Was excellent with beef onglet!

  • Way too young, but very promising. This terroir-driven Ventoux wine is made up of 90 percent Syrah and 10 percent Mourvèdre. The cuvée Persia was aged for twelve months in 600-liter demi-muids and also in Austrian oak barrels (Stockinger). Decanted: one hour prior to tasting. Intense dark red color with violet shades and an awesome nose evoking fragrances of black plums, cassis, Mediterranean herbs and a hint of leather and white pepper. The well-balanced palate is a full-bodied powerhouse dominated by concentrated cherry and bramble fruit, but the tannins are still firm. Persistent finish. This wine will get much better with 2-3 more years in the bottle.

Persistente afdronk. Geef deze wijn nog zeker 2-3 jaren kelderrust.
