Dark cherries, salted almonds, chocolate, a little bit of earth, good body and balanced acidity. Not a lot of depth or complexity, but a fun food friendly Gigondas that would please many palates. Drinking well now but should hold and possibly improve for 5+ years. Rating: 90+

Medium color for a Gigondas. Good cherry-like fruit with plenty of salt from the Grenache. No apparent oak, despite the fact that "the wine is aged in 100 year old oak vats during 12 months, with a percentage in French oak barrels" <https://www.brotte.com/en/gigondas-grenache-cru-rhone-valley-montmirail-rich-smooth-and-spicy>. "La Marasque" is derived from Marasca cherries, which are the base of Maraschino liqueur. Alcohol in the finish. Needs time to integrate.

Fresh strawberries and blackberries. Deep purple in color with soft tannins. This was great right out the chute. Opened one bottle and was such a crowd pleaser, cracked number two. Great now.
