  • I don’t remember the last bottle being this ripe. Bruised plumb, garrigue, Mediterranean spice and tea come together in this exuberant Gigondas. This has to be bottle variance. It started to mellow somewhat after a couple of glasses.

  • Dark red fruit, peat moss, underbrush and Mediterranean spice combine for a wonderfully textured Gigondas. A good nose with enough depth for an interesting discussion. Good juice.

  • PNP on Day 1, but found it wound too tight to enjoy, so I gave it about 2h that evening and then re-approached it on Day 2. It's still wound pretty tight and could probably use another 3-5 years in the cellar, but it was at least approachable. Offers raspberry, blackberry, potting soil, anise, tar and dried herbs. Robust and full-bodied, with a velvety texture, rustic tannins that retain quite a bit of muscle. Red, black and blue berries on the palate, with a streak of anise in the finish. A slight bitterness and leanness are slightly discordant. But I'll look forward to more of this in several years.

  • Plum, boysenberry, and a touch of earthiness dominate the nose of this excellent Gigondas. Smooth mouthfeel and a light finish characterize this wine.

  • Color: Dark ruby. Impressive.

Nose: Complex, expressive Grenache/Syrah driven nose of black cherry, black raspberry, smoke, garrigue spices, provençale pastilles (violets and licorice), and touch a barnyard.

Palate: Rich, full-bodied, excellent concentration. Sweet fruit in the mid palette. Black cherry, black raspberry, smokey damson plum. Soft tannins. Big alcohol (14.5%) and grenache pepper gives this a slight but definite bite on the finish (and tiny bit of spritz at first, but blew off).

Fantastic Gigondas. A little rustic in style (store this wine in a cool cellar). 2016 is an excellent vintage in the southern Rhône. 80 Grenache/20 Syrah.
