Riding on the edge between the rustic and modern side Grenache based wines from the southern Rhone. The nose takes some coaxing but cool aromas of figgy blackberry, plums, and sugar coated raspberries emerge. The palate is lively and there is a nice density to the wine. The attack is quite sweet with loads of black and red fruit but there's a green streak to mid-palate. The finish is long and round with a solid tannic structure. Everything is there to merit a higher score but the rustic green/stemmy quality adds intrigue but keeps the score down a bit. Overall a very good QPR. 86-88 range.

Mild forest and dust on the nose. Tannic right away on the palate. Thought it needed time to open. After about an hour the taste became more red fruit, plum, and some chocolate. Overall, medium tannins and a bite of alcohol. Have had better Vacqueyras.

Appearance is clear deep ruby. Nose is clean and medium, with pronounced savory spice, leather, and red fruit (plum and raspberry). On the palate the wine is dry with medium acidity and tannin and flavors of red and black fruits (raspberry, plum, and black cherry) leavened with pungent spice (pepper) and savory leathery, smoky barnyard character. The finish is medium to long. Overall, this is an excellent and very well rounded example of a good Vaqueras Cotes du Rhone. Very nice.
