Expressive nose with cherries and pout pourri. Zippy acidity, some minerals, grippy tanins; forest floor and cherries, with hints of smoke. Spice and a tad of wood on the medium+ ending. Very approachable yet young, it was a very enjoyable Barolo that will no doubt improve with age. Better than my previous bottle a couple of years ago.

NobleRottersSydney - North Italy (Fix, St James, Sydney): {cork, 14%} [Graeme] Black cherries and tar. Right in the slot. Promised much on the nose, but the palate was drying and astringent, with high dusty tannins and soft fruit flavours. Medium/full-bodied, with medium acidity. All about structure but a bit more generosity would be nice. Not entirely convincing.

Nose reminds me of a Manhattan, with notes of cherry liqueur, bitters, brown sugar, and chinotto. Palate shows flavours of cherry and chinotto, with a thread tight, bitter tannin. It finishes with a burst of spirit, leaving an aftertaste of bitter greens, cherry pits, and black tea.

D2h. Dark garnet red, red tinged, 5.5. Generous mature spicy slavonian cask bouquet, tar, dark fruits and more. Harmonious palate, medium+ tannin, medium acidity, high- body, fine balance, ripe fruit, long intense spicy finish. Drink now-2027 maybe beyond that…

Deep garnet color. Perfumed nose of violets, cherries, with earthy and leathery notes. Full bodied, great acidity on the palate, then raspberries, violets, some anise; chalky yet not prominent tannins, a hint of wood. Very straightforward and not hugely complex, but quite enjoyable.
