  • Decanted from cellar temperature and began to drink after about 90 minutes with a simple pasta dish with a tomato-based sauce.

The nose is classic Rhone: dark red fruits, hints of herbs and spiciness. The palate is rather grippy: immediate mouth-coating tannins, which are drying, but not unpleasant, surrounding more of those dark red fruits, nice herbal/garrigue notes, and a medium acidity which is in a good balance overall. The fruit fades quite quickly on the finish, leaving the dry tannins and a pleasantly crisp acidity to linger for a little longer.

Overall this isn't a big heavy wine, but it is very nicely balanced on the palate with a certain complexity of flavours and a dry mouthfeel. I see it as a "light food" wine rather than one to sip on its own.

I got this at a low price due to a stock-picking error at my supplier, but at the CAV of ~US$20 this is very decent QPR.

EDIT: to say that this continues to develop with air, and after about 3 hours the acidity and, to some extent the tannins, have softened and this is has become a rather smooth and easy-drinking wine. For my taste I preferred it at 60-90 minutes with a little more acidic bite, but others may prefer the softer version after more air.
