Herbal earthy nose, notes of thyme and rosemary coming through with forest floor/pinot funk. Concentrated raspberries and cherry on the front of the palate, which turns quickly into spicy/earthy notes. Interesting to note that Domaine Gachot-Monot does not use much new wood at all. Soft tannins are present and last through the relatively short finish, although the concentration here feels amazing. While the acidity in this wine is not lacking, I wish there was slightly more of it to lift up the finish just a little bit more. Sooo smooth, this is everything I could want from a $50 NZD Côte de Nuits Villages appellation wine.

CCT's note captures it well: "4/23/2020 - CCT WROTE:89 Points Dark pinot fruit, florals, Vosne like spice, moss, and woodsy notes on the nose. Spice, sappy texture, and a mix of red and dark fruited pinot on the palate, with surprising depth for its designation. A little wood spice is done well. Long on the back end with some basil and floral perfume...an excellent value."

Needed to open, but paired well with both shellfish and duck breast.
