2017 Bodega Chacra Sin Azufre was aromatic and energetic. The developing Argentinian Pinot Noir was clear and pale ruby in colour with traces of fine suspensions. Aromas of dried strawberry, hawthorn, rose petals and Provençal herbs were followed by green olives, cured ham and a hint of dark chocolate.
On the palate, it was dry and medium-bodied, supported by a medium-low level of supple tannin and a rather high level of lively acidity. There were flavours of red cherry, bramble, bergamot, earth and discreet spices in a rather long, savoury finish. It paired exceptionally well with Époisses cheese. The alcohol level was at 13%. The empty bottle weighed 421 grams.
Detailed winemaking information is provided on the winery website. The cuvée is an experimental project of the founder, Piero. The objective is to craft wines without relying on modern winemaking technologies, but the senses and reasoning of the winemaker. The viticulture follows organic and biodynamic practices. The tannin is supple on Pinot Noir standards, because no pressed wine is included. The wine is raised a combination of concrete tanks (46%) and French oak barrels (54%) for eleven months. The wine is bottled unfiltered.

As noted below. Cloudy, with a slight bitter note, this wine seemed disjointed and a bit confusing. Upon the pnp, it seemed to have an effervescence that had me wondering if there was a problem with the wine. After a short decant, it blew off and revealed the following. A great nose of cranberry, bitter cherry, rhubarb and herb. Medium body and finish. Everyone agreed that this took some time to warm up to, and for the money, no way!

Cloudy light ruby in the glass. Cool aromas of cherry, rhubarb and deep sense of minerality. High acidity, medium - tannins and medium finish. Became disjointed after hour 3, picking up a bitter, woody aftertaste.
