Opened last night. Very dark red, but relatively thin-looking red legs. Fairly deep red-fruited nose that carries nicely over the mouth. Decent depth. Although it comes between more heralded vintages, this is quite fine, as have been many of the '17 Bordeaux. It is just a little rough around the edges, but time should solve that. Nonetheless, this is already approachable, and has a lingering finish. 4-12-16-8: 90/100.

100% Merlot from a less known domaine with a small production (less than 20,000 bottles/year) not far from the town of St.Emilion. It seems that the quality has increased enormously after the taking over by new owners in 2015. This is a fantastic success in this overlooked vintage. Opaque blood-red colour with a purple rim and a lavish berry-fruited nose and taste with a lot of “umami”, ripe tannines and an invigorating freshness. Irresistible now and will remain in good condition for at least eight years. 14,5% alcohol almost not noticeable.

Slightly spicy and smokey, this wine ticks many positive Merlot boxes (100 % Merlot). Dry, medium-bodied and quite complex, it offers a well-balanced multi-layered work of fresh flavors, fine textures and firm tannins. Dark fruits and berries predominate over licorice, chocolate and freshly roasted coffee. From the barrels come notes of oak and sweet tobacco and in the finish a pleasant juicy saltiness is added. Very good, as is the QPR!

Tannic with some earthiness and some fruit in the background.
