Simplicity is the keyword here, simplicity and tannins. The nose gives unripe fruits and that is what is found in the taste together with tannins. Not terribly aggressive but clearly dominating any fruit. Mind you, give it some air and it does soften, but it does remain rather simple. I would not complain getting a glass of this sangiovese/merlot blend as wine of the house in an osteria to accompany a pasta alla Norma or al ragu and moreover at 8 euros it is quite okay. It's not the hidden gem at low price I was hoping for.
