now rich, round, fragrant, slightly plummy perhaps, utterly delicious; my wife feels it is the best she has had since our heyday of purchasing and later consuming select big guns from the 1980s

Now an austere and rather somber pomerol, not really what one would call complicatedly tasty or packed with variety, but fine of the type, elegant, smooth, polished, deep straightforward nose; again w roast lamb leg sauced w mustard-garlic-oo-lemon-soy-yogurt-hummus-thyme+rosemary.

A soft and slightly chocolaty drink, rich and deep if not complicated. Not like any other pomerol I have ever had (famous ones, austere and serious; few), which may say more about me than about pomerol. In velvetiness it reminded me of a recent same-year 2015 Chantegrive I had, different grape probably, but also a touch of chocolate. Does not need more time, imo. Wife found it totally delicious. Had w barbecued lamb shoulder chop and dijon-garlic sauce, the usual soy-lemon-rosemary-thyme-cumin treatment ... It was not quite (for me) cutting enough, serious enough, and in fact the drier 2014 haut medoc de branaire-ducru I recently kvetched about somewhat showed (tasted, complemented) better.
