Yellow. Petrol and orange zest. Medium bodied with outstanding glycerine feel. Promising start of bitter citrus and stone fruit, then a lot of soil on the back end, but it comes across as a little dull and missing a cutting edge. The acidity seemed more firm when I tasted this 2 years ago.

Bottle no 2 of 2 opened today, on account of the first not being up to par. This was a different story altogether. More like a dry auslese in its steely acidity and taut profile - all grapefuit, steel and granny smith apple. If anything tasting less mature than previously.

Bottle no 1 of 2 opened today - it was unrecognisable compared to last time. Although not strictly faulty, definitely at variance to other bottles I've had. It was more sort of sherried, perhaps a bit oxidised. Not showing well and I decided not to serve it.

Medium yellow. Wow, this "basic" Sommerberg is dynamite. Glycerine, round with a touch of exotic fruit (pineapple?) but brought back to a resoundingly dry finish by lemon, great acidity, and a good lashing of soil. I was surprised by how ready this seemed tonight.

Chez MG: Citrus, a little petrol, young. Good tension.
