Community Tasting Notes (4) Avg Score: 90.5 points

  • Winefield's pre-sale tasting: A hint of petrol and caramel, slightly buttery, good balance sweet/sour, a bit chunky in the aftertaste; overall a wine with character.

  • Not going to formally rate this as cork was compromised. From the time I got this a few years ago I have noted the capsule gradually expanding, though not at a rapid rate. When I removed it to inspect in 3/2023, there was clear but very mild seepage from one area of the cork. Nonetheless the wine apparently held up well without overt oxidation or over-maturation. An excellent auslese regardless. Without the cork compromise it would have been 91 points as it is drinking now. I realize these German rieslings are often absolute tanks with ability to withstand all kinds of environmental abuse, but nonetheless this one drnk great on opening and over the next 5 days.

  • well crafted wine. Sweet on the nose and finishes with a nice ripe green apple finish

  • Superb showing right out of the bottle with plenty of room for additional development. Intense scents of chamomile, rocks, honey and orange blossom radiate from the glass. It’s what I’d consider light bodied, with little to no weight. Really great acidity that matches the honey/guava/pineapple/mango flavours present and that lingered for some time. This was gone within minutes after being open, so it’s obviously great now. Will be interesting to check back in another 5-10 years.
