  • My first California Pinot Noir , in several years, due to overblown high alcohol encounters from various producers.
On nose green herbs, a ghost of eucalyptus and cherry pits.
On palate: all above flavour notes accounted for, with light , damp earth, tart cherry fruit and mild Kona coffee on a clean, fresh acidic backbone ....notes of allspice chime in on the finish....after a two hour decant, this New world wine displays some Old world class, with a civilized 12.9% alcohol reading ....at 7 years of age, can age a bit further, but ready now.
Ably partnered a leg of lamb, jasmine rice and vegetable medley, this evening.

  • Blind Tasting of 8 Coastal California Pinots $20-60. Ranked 4 out of 8 by group, my #3. Light oak and cherry on the nose. Very smooth mouthfeel and balance, and sweet fruit. Long finish.

  • Less nuanced than 2016 Cerise but plenty quaffable.

  • Not overly complex on the nose but good aromatics: lot of crushed red fruits, some spices, some herbaceous elements.
First impression on the palate is quite nice with lot of red fruits but on the cool side (no warm or overripeness). Medium- body and flavor intensity. Good acidity but tannins feel a bit green/stalky and finish becomes quickly a bit unpleasant and harsh. Still acceptable to drink at the moment.
Hard to predict potential ageeing. Tannins definitely needs time to integrate (if possible) and no tertiary aromas at the moment but not sure how the primary aromas will hold as they are not on the high side already: It is a bit austere at the moment. Will still try to wait 2-4 years still for next bottle.
