  • Amelia is back for another year, and I for one am very happy to see it on the shelves - definitely high on my list of top Okanagan Syrahs! After a bigger, somewhat fatter feeling 2016, the latest vintage offers an excellent balance of robust structure with excellent drinkability (10% Viognier aiding the latter, a-la Côte-Rotie). This is dark, herbacious, smoky Syrah - right up my alley. More pine forest and hickory than olive laden and meaty, the 2017 gives loads of ripe dark fruit, peppercorn, gravel, and graphite. Cloves and licorice root join hints of bell pepper, while a notable spiciness persists on the finish. The wine is somehow deep and brooding yet not overbearing; serious yet unabashedly fun. Without a doubt, I’ll be grabbing more of these for both now and future enjoyment!
