Saturday at Knightsbridge (Northbrook, IL): Wine tasted, double blind. Good red fruit and earthy aromas, even if slightly past its peak. Similar flavors on palate, slightly lean and harsh, but better than I would ever have expected given the vintage.

I was prepared for the worst, given the vintage's reputation. This wine, instead, showed the excellent reputation of the vineyard and the maker. Certainly mature colour, but not pale. Nose has a hint of VA to lift the baked fruit and floral aromas. Tasty and silky and med long finish. Past its peak - don't wait any longer.

Passed away at least ten years ago.
If you want to enjoy the remaining structure of this expensive bottle, blend it with a decent german Pinot Noir.
