1 hour decant this time, 60 F. Deep ruby color. Aromatic nose of cherry and chocolate mint ice cream, with notes of sandalwood and violets. Light pleasant acidity, silky-to-velvety tannins with a bit of grip. Well-integrated oak, no noticeable heat. Again, big black cherry fruit on the palate, with plum, vanilla, dried leather and oak spice, and hints of balsamic sun-dried tomato. Long, lingering finish.

Should have decanted, as it really started to show after an hour when we were close to finishing the bottle. Deep, dark ruby color, starting to edge towards garnet. Subdued nose of cherry, mint, dark chocolate and violet, gave no hint of how big the fruit is on the palate. Well-structured, medium bodied, lively acidity. Velvety texture and grippy tannins emerged with air. A long, lingering finish. Big black cherry fruit, oak spice, coffee and a slight balsamic note on the palate. A very nice nebbiolo/barbera blend that revels in its Italian character.

This hedonistic mixture of Barbera and Nebbiolo in a modern style is just great fun to drink. It’s quite bold and racy, with intense fruit and a good amount of oak, but sometimes that’s exactly what I’m looking for. I personally drink them on the younger side while some friends swear on aging them 8-10 years.

Punches well above its weight class. Well made wine with deep red fruit and broad layers of complexity.
