  Given the sort of overwrought Chardonnay (i.e., oaky, buttery) that prevails in so much of the wine world, it's so nice to drink the varietal from the source, so to speak, and Tesco brings us a benchmark version from Burgundy, as it does with other varietals and regions through its "Finest" line. This is a lot like cider, with strong apple notes, fresh and vibrant, but there's also ample lemony citrus fruit and loads of minerality, while additional complexity comes from acacia honey, white flowers, and light stone fruit (peaches, apricots). It's like summer in a glass, like sitting in an orchard, while the minerals keep those ethereal elements firmly rooted in the local soil and a touch of white pepper adds background spice.
