Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • "A lively palate with distinct lemon sorbet and herbal flavours. Soft, juicy, sweet fruit carries a tight acid line, possibly accentuated by the lower alcohol. The finish is light, clean and breezy, while the balance of fruit phenolic and acidity creates a slight chalkiness.

The sites selected for our Black Market Chardonnays originated from the Gingin clone of Chardonnay - Margaret River's heritage clone. The Karridale block is approximately 50km south of the Valley block in Wilyabrup, making the site considerably cooler. The fruit was whole bunch pressed, full solids to old oak and fermented wild. The wine underwent Malolactic fermentation naturally, before 11 months maturation in oak (1-3 year old barrels). No fining or filtration was undertaked and a small amount of SO2 was used to protect the wine. The Karridale block harvest was almost one month later than the Valley block in Wilabrup with lower sugar yet similar acidity. Both block show delicate, ripe flavours typical of their environment." - Vasse Felix
