  • Even for $10, I don't think this hits the mark. It's drinkable and fine, but feels pretty dull at best and poorly manipulated at worst.

By far the most prevalent note on the nose is that distinctly bitter, unpleasant oak note that always screams oak chips to me. It's a sort of weirdly ashy smell that reminds me of cigarette butts. There's a tiny little bit of fruit underneath, vague cherry, pretty nice actually and not ridiculously jammy or anything- but unfortunately mostly buried. That's pretty much it on the nose.

The palate was much less offensive, but forgettable. There's a tiny little pinch of acidity and structure, but it's still very watery, just the same very vague reddish cherry suggestion, maybe some plummy acidity which was nice. But unfortunately although there's an interesting little bright herbal tone, it eventually morphs into that bitter fake oak again in the finish.

There was some improvement on the second day, with the super bitter oak component fading juuusst a pinch into the background, but still too prevalent. I'm starting to realize that if I'm going to drink a pretty manipulated, very-cheap wine, I'd rather it just be a little jammy/goofy/overripe rather than trying to achieve balance with thin, watery fruit and poor quality oak stand-ins. Day 2 is what brought it from 87 to 88 for me, but...for $10, there's a lot of wine out there that feels much more characterful and real, and if you spend just a few dollars more, the world is your oyster.

  • My wife's favorite wine. Solid wine, on the sweet side, and consistent.
