Exhibiting a beautiful light red color, this wine opens with aromas of red berries, fine earthy florals, and a distinct Tempranillo character – easily identifiable once I saw the label. Initially, there was a hint of butter, but it aired out quickly, revealing notes of lingonberry jam. On the palate, it presents with high acidity, medium tannins, and a slightly less than medium body. However, the expected vibrancy is somewhat lacking, leading to a bit of disappointment, especially considering that the 2010 vintage in Rioja is acclaimed as one of the most exceptional in years, as agreed upon by both vintners and critics. The season was marked by an ideal balance of warm days and cool nights, fostering optimal phenolic maturity and preserved acidity in the grapes – crucial for creating wines with complexity and aging potential.
Generally, the red Gran Reservas from this year stand out. Unfortunately, this particular wine does not follow suit. It is often said that the 2010 Gran Reservas are distinguished by their aging potential. Perhaps this wine has more to reveal in time, but currently, its core seems underdeveloped, making it hard to envision it transforming into a sublimely beautiful butterfly. This vintage is touted as offering a unique experience for the true wine lover, with its wines considered among the finest examples of what the Rioja region can produce. This is my fourth wine from Rioja's 2010 vintage, and I remain unconvinced about the accolades it has received.

Notes of Cassis, Cherry well rounded by the oak. Leathery and a medium length finish. Good balance of tannins and acidity but perhaps leaning a bit more on acidity. A couple more years and this wine would be sublime.

Intoxicating game aromas along with oak, brown sugar, Cheese, perfume, and black fruits. The meat aromas were something else that hypnotized you to keep smelling, like some sort of drug.
Flavours of game, dried herbs, oak, fig, black fruit, and red licorice. Soft tannins with medium plus acidity, it's juicy but the body keeps it in check, very well balanced. Fantastic value especially on clearance.

Acidic, crazy fresh for 2010. Good quality here, a step up on their solid Reserva. More interesting.
A new house/brand for me. Glad to know it.
14%, cork.
