  • Beautiful Jura Chardonnay with a little age, yet still a long life ahead. Benchmark Jura Chardonnay.

  • A Vin de France Chardonnay from Jura. 14% alcohol.

Intense yellow-green color. Very wild, sweet-toned and rather heavily volatile nose with aromas of nail polish VA, some apple jam, a little bit of sweet, acetic character, light funky notes of brett, a hint of honey and a touch of wax. Exactly the kind of nose that promises mousy aftertaste. The wine is ripe, full-bodied and quite sweet-toned on the palate with technically dry flavors of apple jam, nail polish VA, some honeyed tones, a little bit of apricot, light vinegary roughness in the throat and a hint of stony minerality. The moderately high acidity keeps the wine quite balanced. The finish is sweet-toned, funky and waxy with quite volatile flavors of nail polish, honey, some leathery funk, a little bit of stony minerality, a hint of apple jam and an acetic touch of vinegary roughness around the throat. However, no mousiness at all!

A very ripe, wild and volatile Chardonnay that still manages to retain nice freshness, thanks to its high acidity and quite pronounced minerality. With its very sauvage taste, the wine tastes more "natural" than Jura. There's the high acidity and minerality that are so typical of Jura Chardonnay, but otherwise the heavily volatile and somewhat bretty characteristics mask away most of the nuances here. A pleasant wine in its own right, but I prefer my natural wines a bit less natty. Feels slightly pricey for the style at 12€ for a 12 cl glass in a restaurant.

  • Too much VA, alas.
