A trip to South Africa's Coastal Region with Reni, Rainer and Bert. Day 12, Stellenbosch and Camps Bay (Cape Town). The 200ha Kleine Zalze Estate has 110 ha under wine. Kleine Zalze uses both estate grown grapes (roughly 1/3 of the production) and purchased grapes (roughly 2/3 of the production). We tasted Kleine Zalze's wines at the winery's tasting room, with our charismatic host Wayne van Rooyen.
15% ABV. Aged for 24 months in French oak, 70% new. Cherry, blackberry, black currant, spices, eucalyptus and vanilla, with good acidity, ripe tannin and very good length. Good concentration and complexity. Should age well.
