Upon opening, the cork and neck were caked with thick purple sediment, so decanted through Vinturi to filter. Allowed to open in the decanter for less than an hour before first glass, drank over the ensuing hour+. Initially somewhat tart, with a slight prune and raisin character that had me worried it may be an off bottle. But undercurrents of dark cherry and vanilla were present as well, and as the wine opened in the decanter they came more into focus, as did secondary notes of herbal liquor and tar. Certainly a deep and brooding wine, it didn't feel like it ever fully resolved but was nonetheless very good.

Friday Group Brown Bag Tasting (R&D’s): Blind. Herbaceous notes with black and blue fruit underneath along with hints of vanilla. Medium tannins with flavors of black cherry, plum and vanilla. Nicely balanced.

A serious step up from the last bottle (but it doesn’t look like it by score because my scoring system has been re-normalized since then). Great integration of fruit, acid, tannin. Really is hitting its stride.

Smooth and complex. A bit flat on the fruit and acid side; mineral elements and tertiary flavors appear to be taking over.

Well made Cabernet. Still too young for everything to be fully integrated, but enjoyed it more and more as it opened up. Great pairing with chocolate!
